As the Editor of the Monthly Surepass Newsletter, I usually receive quite a amount of news for publication. Now I don’t say it’s all front page material but it’s largely of interest to our instructors.
BUT, what a month we just had!!!! – pupils queuing up to pay compliment to Surepass Instructors; FIRST TIME PASSES, CLEAN SHEET PASSES and a growing number who want to tell us that they passed after almost giving up hope with their previous Instructor.
It is fitting testimony for a job well done, especially these days when money has become so much tighter and teenagers struggle to scrape together their lesson fees. So it makes even more sense for pupils to pick up the phone and dial 0800 85 41 40, and begin the road to success.

RECESSION? – WHAT RECESSION?

It seems the main topic of conversation around the Test Centres during 2011, has been how business is “dropping off”.
With this in mind, it has been a breath of fresh air to see each batch of monthly figures released from Surepass Head Office.
Month by month, the numbers of people wishing to book lessons with Surepass has risen consistently year on year – and FASTPASS COURSES? – new records are being set each month.

ANTHONY DOES IT IN STYLE !!!

There are big smiles in Glossop this weekend and, I dare say, a sense of relief that it’s “all over.”
Anthony Norgrove, a recent recipient of the prestigious “Trainee of the Month” award, flew past the winning post at Cheetham Hill Test Centre with an impressive 5/5 qualification.
Speaking to the editor of our newsletter recently, Anthony could hardly contain his excitement as he poured compliments out to his trainer Geoff Rose:
I truly enjoyed my training for both parts of my qualification. For Part 2 you were able to correct my bad habits, built up over my 20+ years of driving, and made me a much better driver generally.

For Part 3 everything became more crucial, and I depended on Geoff entirely to tell me what was needed to pass. I nearly did it on my first direct attempt and notched up a 5 and a 3 which wasn’t far off. With Geoff’s help on the in car days at ATS, and the help of Mike and Mark, I got this up to a 5 and 5 which I was really pleased with.

The 6 hour days we spent on individual training just whizzed by, which is testimony in itself to Geoff’s excellent training techniques.
I really hope he will be able to help me with my prep for my check tests, and look forward to my further training.
It has been a great experience becoming a Surepass ADI, and I love my job.”

To any Surepass trainee reading this, it must send out a very positive signal about the quality and positive attitudes currently surrounding you, as you study to emulate such high achievers as Anthony.

One of our ADI’s was on his way to a test with a pupil and had paused at a roundabout waiting for a safe gap to join, when another driver ran into the back of their car, badly damaging the bumper; thankfully the car was still drivable!

The ADI and pupil were very shaken, but made the decision to continue and see if the car was acceptable on test – alas it wasn’t, but another Surepass ADI who was at the test-centre on a lesson, gallantly offered to swap cars if the ADI and pupil still wanted to take the test – which they did.
I would love to say he passed …but it worked out he was more affected by the bump than he realised and failed on one too many driving faults – but it just shows the caliber of a Surepass instructor

OFF WITH A BANG

2012 seems to have got away to a record start, with our Account Managers reporting a huge increase in telephone enquiries, resulting in an equally-huge number of new pupils and new ADI Joiners. More and more of our Instructors are also reporting full diaries, which has to be a happy change of events, given the decline in driving lessons on the run up to Christmas.
Don’t forget, Surepass has more to offer the prospective pupil than just the hourly pre-paid lesson – we also have a range of intensive courses. Why not give our Booking Line a call?

Special Bulletin – Changes to the Driving Test

From the 4th October learner drivers will be tested on independent driving as part of the practical driving test. During the test the pupil will be asked to drive for approximately 10 minutes either following a series of directions or by following traffic signs, or a combination of both. If required, the examiner may show the pupil a simple diagram of the intended route to follow. Here’s an example of a diagram similar to the one the examiner will use: Independent driving diagram

Also from October a pupil will only be asked to carry out one reversing manouevre on the driving test. The manoeuvre will be chosen by the examiner from:

Turn in the road
Left or right reverse
Reverse into a bay or parallel park

Note: The emergency stop exercise will still be conducted in 1 out of every 3 tests.

There are no plans to increase the cost of the driving test in view of the changes.

If the pupil takes a wrong turn or goes off route in error then the examiner will give directions to get the pupil back on the route. In this situation the examiner will only mark driving errors, if any occurred – just as they do now. The examiner will not mark coming off the route as a driver error and it will not count towards a pass or fail. Wherever possible the examiner will step in to assist the pupil if it looks like the pupil is about to make an error and go off the route.

Testing a pupils ability to drive independently doesn’t require the pupil to have geographic knowledge (or even speak English). If the pupil forgets the directions given then the examiner will step in and be happy to confirm them. The purpose of independent driving is to enable the pupil to make decisions without supervision - just as the pupil will do after passing the driving test and driving independently with friends.

THE GIRLS LEAD THE WAY

What a week!! Amreen Bativala, Nicola Taylor and Sarah Bagnall passed their Part 3 Examination, with Sarah and Nicola acheiving success at the first attempt! To say we are proud of the girls would be an understatement and all at surepass wish them even greater success in their future careers.

I couldn’t have asked for a better Instructor than Sara! She is friendly, patient and most of all- a great teacher! i enjoyed the whole process-from start to finish,and the fact that i passed first time with very few faults is surely a testament to Sara’s skills as an Instructor!

I had my first driving lesson with Sha and felt at ease straight away. I had already been driving with another instructor but unhappy with the results! After phoning Surepass and meeting Sha I am so glad I did.Starting from the basic to turns on the road etc I have learnt more in a few lessons than I did having previous 29hr lessons with instructor from the other school.Sha explains things “simple” but mostly is reassuring and makes you feel confident and motivated
